Ambriel Acres Alpacas

In this blog, I'm going to talk about our alpaca farm, Ambriel Acres Alpacas. We are located in the Middle Tennessee Valley between Nashville and Chattanooga. We'll be essentially starting from the ground up so if you're thinking about starting your own alpaca business, this might be a good place to learn. If you're just curious, welcome aboard.

Hey Ange!

Angeline

The name Angeline is Italian in origin meaning angel or messenger.

Angeline is settling in nicely and her personality is starting to show. She is demonstrating a bit of independence just like her mother Aurora and sibling Amadora. She sometimes wanders off on her own exploring the farm only to realize everybody left and she's all alone! This morning I found her in the boy pen with the five young males. The boys welcomed her into their group and didn't try to hurt or harm her. I went down there, picked her up and placed her in the barn where her mother could come to her rescue.

I will have to say that although Aurora and I have had our differences, she is an excellent mother. Aurora is sort of the leader of the group and she has no problem voicing her displeasure with me as I administer her monthly deworming injection or attempt to trim her nails. I've been spit at on numerous occasions. She is very protective with Angeline as well as her two year old daughter! She is very strong willed and can be hard to handle but I have to say that I'm impressed with her motherly instincts.

It's a Girl....... Again!

We had a nice Sunday surprise as Aurora gave birth to a beautiful white female cria yesterday. She was born approximately 10:30am, weighed in at 13 lbs. and we named her Angeline after my grandmother. She came about 18 days early as Aurora's target date was Oct. 9th. Mother and cria are doing fine and everything seems to be normal. This is our first cria out of our herdsire Wira Cocha and it's our second female cria of the year.

Here are a few photos from yesterday.

We have two more births on tap for late October as Ruth Hussey and Trellianna are due on the 27th and 29th respectively. We'll look forward to those births as Wira Cocha is the sire to both of those as well. We'll keep you posted.
